Editor’s note: this is the last in a series of day trip ideas you can plan for your children or grandchildren.

Milk at its finest.

It’s the motto of the Shatto Milk Company. And you can test it out on a tour of the family owned and operated dairy farm near Osborn.

Tours must be scheduled in advance and are both fun and educational for children and adults.

Visitors get to pet baby calves and learn how to milk a cow.

The tour of the processing plant also includes seeing the bottling process, how bottles are prepared for re-use and where the cows eat, sleep and how they’re milked.

Oh, and you’ll get to try free samples.

When the weather cooperates, there’s also a perfect spot for a blanket picnic.

The appointment-only farm tours start at 10:30 am, Tuesday through Saturday.

Cost is $5 per person and children two and under are free.

It is a working farm, so make sure you wear comfortable clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting dirty.

And don’t forget a cooler for the country store which is open seven days a week.

You can purchase farm-fresh cheese, butter, cheese curds, ice cream and more. The milk comes in a variety of types and flavors including orange dream milk, strawberry, banana and root beer. They also sell non-dairy bottled items like tea and lemonade.

The farm offers several events throughout the year including Family Day at the Farm and a Holiday Open House.

Shatto Milk Company is located at 9406 North Highway 33, southwest of Osborn.
